Youth Gathering 2015 Update
While our church members were in Detroit this July, they participated in this project. More than 1,000 vacant lots were cleared of debris, 100 vacant homes boarded, 500 tires removed, and 20 acres of grass mowed during a three day anti-blight project in the city.

The 30,000 ELCA kids (and chaperones) that were in Detroit last week seemed to have had a wonderful time. It felt like flocks of birds were in the city, swooping down in packs of various colored birds. They were brilliantly orange, and turquoise and green and blue. Generally smiling, having a good time, and helping clean up and clear up several neighborhood parks and projects. There were so many here that Friday evening they closed off every street east of Randolph to accommodate the kids walking from Ford Field to their E. Jefferson hotels or pick-up buses to take them to Rochester and Novi or wherever they could find hotel space. One letter from a young girl went viral. It was nice to have them all here.
