The motto of St. John is "As Christ came to serve, so shall we serve." Each individual member of this community of faith is encouraged to give evidence of our gratitude for God's blessings by serving others as they encounter them in their daily life. We also believe that God's blessings fall upon the whole people of God gathered here, so we strive to show gratitude by our corporate actions.

Currently, we are involved in these corporate ministries:

  • Senior Luncheon. Monthly, volunteers from St. John serve a warm meal and provide entertainment and brief devotions for seniors. Open to the public (first come, first served) we usually feed and entertain between 80 and 100 senior citizens.
  • Local food pantries. We regularly support the Acton Food Pantry and the Acton Community Supper with financial contributions, personnel and food collections. We also support other local food pantries with financial contributions.
  • Concord Prison Ministry. An ongoing ministry to those incarcerated at MCI Concord, St. John has volunteers helping with a prison run Father's program, and regularly participates in the Concord Prison Christmas Shoebox Project.
  • Habitat for Humanity. As part of the Boston Metro Conference of the New England Synod, we have helped build a Habitat for Humanity house in Boston. We raised over $20,000 at the beginning of the project, and have since supported this project with volunteers who help with construction.
  • Parish Nurse Ministry. A fledgling ministry of St. John, we currently provide trained nurse volunteers from the
congregation to visit, check blood pressure and provide general assessment for elder members. We have also trained volunteers to provide respite care for families experience long term illnesses.
  • Labels for Schools. St. John members collect labels from sponsoring products, and send them to a collective, which helps to purchase school supplies for the Navajo Nation.

Other opportunities abound for the people of St. John to give glory to God with their service, and the congregation often responds to new opportunities as they arise.
