The St John Sunday school program, preschool – high school meets mid-September through early June. Classes begin after the 8:45 AM Worship service and end at 10:50 AM. All young children gather for musical opening, then dispense to their classrooms for a lesson and snack.  Our  curriculum is age appropriate, and focuses on either Biblical stories or a lectionary based lesson. Included in the curriculum are focus units: Holy Baptism, The Lord’s Prayer, The Apostle’s Creed, and The Ten Commandments.

Confirmation instruction is a two-year intensive study opportunity for 7th and 8th graders.  Weekly hour-long classes (September to May, Sunday evenings 6:00 - 7:15 pm) led by the Pastor and the Director of Youth and Family focus on the study of Scripture and Luther’s Small Catechism.  The program culminates in each child’s public affirmation of the promises made at the child’s baptism.

Put another way . . .   it’s a chance to ‘dig deeper’ into the meaning of the Bible, to ‘re-consider’ how we can be part of the greater Lutheran church, to get to know other kids in the parish a bit better, to establish a trusting relationship with adults who care deeply about religion and deeply about kids. The curriculum is a 2 year program using Colaborate: Lutheran Confirmation (www.wearesparkhouse.org/teens/colaborate/lutheran.  For more information be in touch with the Pastor or the Director of Youth and Family.

Youth Group consists of students in grades 9-12. A Sunday morning education hour is enhanced by service, both in house and outside. Such projects include making centerpieces and desserts for our monthly Senior Luncheon, Easter Baskets for young mothers and their children at Florence House, luncheon events with the residents of Emmanuel Village, and college care packages for our own students. Youth Group also engages in other fun activities like; Youth Quake, the ELCA’s Youth Gathering, and other seasonal events.

Taking Root - Hunger Causes, Hunger Hopes
July 10-13, 2017

There is a fundamental connection between our Christian faith and the injustice of hunger and poverty.

The Taking Root curriculum crafted by The ELCA, was created to explore hunger and poverty with children. It helps children to understand the causes of hunger and imagine a world without hunger, and it fosters a deep commitment to solutions for hunger. Using Taking Root for Vacation Bible School specifically is an incredible opportunity to help children make deep connections between growing in faith in God and practicing their faith in the world.

Adult Forum meets on Sundays in the sanctuary at 10:00 am.

Grab a cup of coffee and join us!

Sunday, May 21st -
Gary Bean from Congregation Beth El in Sudbury will talk to us about a process going on within Beth El to consider publicly identifying as a "sanctuary congregation." This is a pretty timely conversation, and a great opportunity to hear from a neighbor.

After that, we're done with Adult Forum until September.

From September thru May we gather in the sanctuary during the Sunday School hour (9:55 - 10:50 am) to explore our Christian faith.  These sessions are lead by our pastor, guests, and dedicated disciples from our congregation.  Formats include videos, bible studies, book talks, and presentations.

The Thursday Morning Adult Bible Study meets on Thursday mornings at 10:00 AM. All are welcome. If you've never participated in a Bible study group, this is your ticket!
You are welcome to come and participate as often as you can.

St John Puppet Ministry has been a contributor to the Education Ministry for 12 years. The puppets aim to present the Word of God to children as well as adults. Our scripts have focused on various seasons of the liturgical year like "Holy Week Busy-ness" and "Born In A Barn". Stewardship was addressed with our proclamation entitled " Gifts" and Outreach with "Send Me", a proclamation for God’s Global Barnyard. These are only a few of the many programs that we have given over the years. One of our members has composed original music to accompany our messages. Additional titles of interest are " Going To Camp", I’m a Little Bit Scared", "If Pigs Could Fly", "It’s Surprising", "What’s In a Name", "The Great Lutheran Cook –Off", and "Friends".
